mission
Friends of the Homeless is committed to leadership in providing innovative, high-quality programs, services and housing that enable people in central Ohio to move out of homelessness. Through collaboration, advocacy, education and our work, Friends aims to further the beliefs that:
Homelessness should be temporary,
People being served have dignity and worth, and
Resource Desk:
Looking to learn more about social services resources, common questions and issues that the homeless face on a daily basis? The Front Desk is a major source of information for our residents. Volunteers help answer the phones, help answer client questions, and distribute resident supplies
Resource Lab:
You do not need to be a computer expert!
Rather, you will supervise the resource lab, help monitor clients and assist them with resumes, employment applications, and general computer usage.
Since its inception, Friends of the Homeless has relied on the kindness and dedication of volunteers. From providing meals to our shelter residents to helping in our community garden, our "Friends" have helped us greatly!
homelessness
"Many who have experienced homelessness for a long time become numb. They feel they are separated from society, and lack the human touch. They don't get their hands shook, they don't get hugs, they are detached from society and it is not a positive world."
- John Hardy
volunteering
"Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in. "
